Third installment

After we had finished we sat down as there was nothing to do until supper time, Issabelle told us what times the meals were and where we had to go to eat them, I decided to leave them to go and see what the situation was around us from Kirk as I knew he spoke a little english, from what I understood of what he told me it seemed that our position was like a thumb print on the map with the enemy surrounding us on three sides and the village Brvnik would be very important if we managed to take it, he told me that his unit was a recce unit as they were the only unit that was attacking and that all his men were good fighters and that he respected them all, if we were to stay with his unit then his men would have to get used to us and visa-versa,as people came in Kirk introduced them to me especially his second in command who was called Tim, Kirk told me he was not much of a fighter but he was never afraid if he had to fight and that if we had any problems and he wasn't there then we should go to Tony. Once I had found about as much as I could I went back with a map that Kirk had lent me to explain to the rest what was happening and where, zaggy was preoccupied with Isdabelle but everyone else listened intently to what I told them after I had finished they looked at each other and smiled as if to say that this was what they wanted and we were right in the middle of it, I could see that Alan was over the moon at the thought of being on the front line again and quite honestly so was I even though I was still thinking of Paula.
After a quiet night's sleep we decided to ask Kirk if we could go and pick up Docy as he was a combat trained medic and would be invaluable here as they had no real doctors in the local hospital and also because Docy was a professional soldier, Kirk agreed and he got one of his men to drive us there. We got to the base in Visnijavac that Docy had already left for Bosnia so instead of going straight back we went to collect some items that Alan had left behind and to take anything that belonged to Docy, we also decided to relieve the unit of anything else that could be useful to us and one thing that I knew that I wanted was a sleeping bag as I was sure that my bed in Ostra Luka had bugs and I couldn't get to sleep as I was itching to much, I saw a sleeping bag unrolled so I rolled it up and took it with me, it was a pity that there were no weapons lying around or we would have taken them as well. We packed everything into the car and then went to the command house where we could use the telephone, after we had all finished we left as we wanted to catch the ferry before eight as that was when they stopped working. There was one thing that I had to do on our way back and that was to stop so that I could see Paula and explain what had happened, we stopped outside her flat and I ran upstairs, thankfully she was there and within five minutes I had explained everything.
"how long have you got before you go back" she asked me,
"two minutes" as I started walking towards the door,
"why have you got to go back so quickly"
"because we have to catch the ferry as we are to be back before ten, I'm sorry but I will be back in ten days and as soon as I find a phone I will give you a call" I said,
and before she knew what was happening I had kissed her and started off down the stairs, I got back into the car with the men asking me what she had said about me being on the front line again and I told them that we didn't have enough time to discuss it. We arrived back at base at nine so we were early as Kirk's car wasn't there we went straight to our house to find Docy already there, he explained,
"Tate brought me to Bosnia and handed me over to a Hungarian officer, Peter I think his name was, he brought me to meet Kirk and took me to the hospital to meet everyone there" he told us as he was unpacking,
we had been in Osijek to fetch him and he was already on his way, at least he was here now and that was all that mattered, we now had quite a good little unit with it's own doctor, everybody was happy even if we could hear shells dropping not far from us. We all decided to go to bed as we didn't know what tomorrow might bring and we all needed rest.

Luck

Luck, do you believe in it, like finding a four leaf clover, a bird shiting on you, is that going to bring you luck or do you just make your own luck? Some people have so called luck by winning the lottery, winning on online gambling or winning on the stock market, are these all attributed to luck, good question but if you think about it everything that you bet on is controlled by a computer or little balls spinning around in a plastic globe, you win, is that really luck? How do you define what luck really is, I'm not sure but I think you make your own luck. For instance I made my own luck by going to a cafe and meeting my wife who worked there, I made my own luck during the war in Croatia by doing what I had been taught and stayed alive, my wife and I were lucky enough to have three children when there are other married people who can't have children, are those examples of luck or destiny? In a way you could say that it was my destiny to get married not just luck, which is it ...

T+L

Well at long last it seems that there may be a break in our heatwave, last night after the temperature hitting a huge 40 degrees it started to thunder and lightning but did the heavens open for rain to fall, no only a few spots, I could probably drink more water than fell from the sky, at least it's a little cooler 19 and set to rise to a reasonable 35 degrees which is a bit more bearable. It's Sunday the end of the weekend and again it seems that my wife and I will be on our own, my youngest daughter and her fiance are going here and there to visit his family and I'm not sure if my eldest daughter will be here so it's going to be a weird Sunday but peaceful. It's going well for Ukraine from looking at all the media as Ukraine is still taking over more of russia and blowing up bridges so the idiot can't resupply his troops and he is also bombing his own country with missiles, what a shame the ordinary people who so called voted for the puppet master are having t...

Terrible

Isn't it just terrible to see once again ordinary people being targeted by bombs and mortars and being once again driven from their homes. The orders obviously coming from the top which of course means non other than the war monger himself, Putin and the Ukrainians can't do a thing to stop it except helping with the evacuation of the elderly and sick from the border towns with Russia. It is a familiar site for me after witnessing it myself here in Croatia in 1991, so I know how those people feel being driven from their homes and normal lives not knowing wheater they will return or not by a superior force intent on carrying out their orders by a lunatic dictator. Here in Croatia after so many years people are back in their homes, rebuilt and the villages, towns and cities are back to normal, Croatia has come back from the brink of destruction to become a stronger and better country, all because of the heart and will of the people. There is a huge question mark over wheater the U...
