WW2.5

Why WW Two and a half that's because the weekend started last night when thankfully I was in bed, if you're a reader of my blog then you already know what the weekend brings family so I don't have to repeat myself but just incase I'll tell you again it's time when all our family gets together like they do every other weekend, my son's home from his job abroad after giving in his notice before he starts a new job, my daughter who is in college and her fiance are here from the local town and my other daughter who still lives at home and her fiance are all here, it's just like a poker game "full house" literally, especially with the dogs running around like chickens with their heads cut off, there's only one word to describe it and that's bedlam. Of course I'm enjoying the peace and quiet while I can, writing my blog, drinking coffee and smoking a cigarette (after lightning the fire) while I can as it won't last long before they all get up and then it's the beginning of my headache time, don't get me wrong I love having them all here around my wife and I but it does get a bit overwhelming at times. Well that's enough about that as you all know what it will be like so lets change the subject while I still have time for my brain to continue in english before it switches over to a different language.
The beginnings of a war in the middle east what do you think will it escalate or will it stabalise, I'm not really sure but I hope the latter is correct. If Iran again retalitates what then will Israel do and what are the consequences, will it be the start of the use of localised nuclear bombs of which I'm sure Israel has but I'm not sure about Iran and then what happens does the whole of the middle east just explode into a war zone or not. Myself I hope that a country like maybe the US or a third country will intervine with peace talks for the sake of the whole world and mankind as we all know it. The Israelis and the Iranians are both fanatical about their religion so why don't they just practice what is in their holy books, forgiveness, that's the key word which I hope and pray they will consider before doing anything drastic. As of yet I haven't broused through the many tv stations and web sites to see what happened last night but I'm hoping it went peacefully and both the leaders of Israel and Iran have come to their senses and have decided enough is enough and calmed down. My heart felt hope is yes and I'm sure that there are other people that think the same, get around the table to sort your differences out instead of putting the whole world on edge, it's a volatile situation and one misplaced match can ignite an inferno just as the Russian attack yesterday on a civilian target killing and wounding so many innocent people going about their daily lives may do, now without the help of the west Ukraine can't defend itself because of politicians and it's all up to Putin and the Ayotolla to make their minds up before it's to late to turn back because once the button is pushed then that's the beginning of the end or the start of the beginning. Well I hope you have a wonderful weekend I'm sure I will if I pretend to be deaf and will write again tomorrow, if you enjoyed reading todays blog then like and perhaps comment as I would like to hear what you think. Thank you and may God watch over us and keep us safe.

Ninth installment

The remains of the unit that were in this position left and we followed them, we went around the outskirts of the village and back into the center. The rest of PIV or what was left of it were already there, we found out that Colin just after he had reached the main hq in the center of the village. We had to go back to the end of the street to see what was happening but as soon as we arrived we came under heavy fire as the enemy had pinpointed this house as our new front line, there was no way that we could reach Eric without getting everyone who attempted a rescue killed and because of the amount of enemy fire we had to fall back, on the way Alan started going berserk saying that he had to go back to fight, he was shooting everywhere so George calmed him down and asked him to take care of the elderly and that seemed to work. By now the village command had decided it was time to leave but first we had to wait for the mortar unit to reach safety. We could not get anywhere near under cons...

Third installment

Day in, day out, it was the same routine, sleep, guard, fire off a few rounds in the general direction of the enemy, there was not much else to do, the main thing was to stay alive by keeping inside every time mortars or artillery came flying in to the village. The only time that there was a lot of activitie was when we were buzzed by planes, everybody would rush outside, Ernie would jump on the transporter and fire the machine gun, I used to run to the machine gun that was mounted on a tripod at the end of the street and also fire at the plane, everybody else would be outside firing their ak47s, there was not much chance of hitting it or bringing it down but it took only one lucky shot and that would give everyone hope. After the plane had gone out of sight that the transporter was Ernies because he had shot at the enemy leaving the damaged transporter with a sniper rifle, so Geordi the commander in charge of the defense of Osijek had given it to Ernie, I also found out that he worked...

Second installment

The word money has a way of working it's way into every aspect of life and my little crusade was not exempt, how much did I need to get to Croatia, how much did I need to survive on the way, it all had to be taken into account and most where and how I was going to get the money from that I needed. By inquiring at travel agents I found out that I could fly but only as far as Austria, Italy or Hungary but the price was much too expensive for me. Taking the train to any of these countries was also far too expensive, the cheapest way was by bus but the only problem was that it took so long to reach your destination. The bus that I wanted to take went from London and it's destination was Athens in Greece, it normally went through Yugoslavia but because of the war it was not going through Budapest then down into Belgrade before going onto Greece. This was the cheapest way to go and after further inquiries I found out the times and price of the bus, now all I had to do was get the mon...
