T+L

Well at long last it seems that there may be a break in our heatwave, last night after the temperature hitting a huge 40 degrees it started to thunder and lightning but did the heavens open for rain to fall, no only a few spots, I could probably drink more water than fell from the sky, at least it's a little cooler 19 and set to rise to a reasonable 35 degrees which is a bit more bearable. It's Sunday the end of the weekend and again it seems that my wife and I will be on our own, my youngest daughter and her fiance are going here and there to visit his family and I'm not sure if my eldest daughter will be here so it's going to be a weird Sunday but peaceful. It's going well for Ukraine from looking at all the media as Ukraine is still taking over more of russia and blowing up bridges so the idiot can't resupply his troops and he is also bombing his own country with missiles, what a shame the ordinary people who so called voted for the puppet master are having to endure this but perhaps now they'll change their mind about their beloved leader, I haven't, I still dispise the abomination of a human being if you can call him human. In America Trump at one of his election rallies was met with empty seats what a come down for the once all powerful Putin puppet and ex-president things are not looking so good for his chances to be president again. Well that's all for this shorter than usual blog so if you enjoyed reading it then like, follow and share. Thank you.

Ninth installment

The remains of the unit that were in this position left and we followed them, we went around the outskirts of the village and back into the center. The rest of PIV or what was left of it were already there, we found out that Colin just after he had reached the main hq in the center of the village. We had to go back to the end of the street to see what was happening but as soon as we arrived we came under heavy fire as the enemy had pinpointed this house as our new front line, there was no way that we could reach Eric without getting everyone who attempted a rescue killed and because of the amount of enemy fire we had to fall back, on the way Alan started going berserk saying that he had to go back to fight, he was shooting everywhere so George calmed him down and asked him to take care of the elderly and that seemed to work. By now the village command had decided it was time to leave but first we had to wait for the mortar unit to reach safety. We could not get anywhere near under cons...

Third installment

Day in, day out, it was the same routine, sleep, guard, fire off a few rounds in the general direction of the enemy, there was not much else to do, the main thing was to stay alive by keeping inside every time mortars or artillery came flying in to the village. The only time that there was a lot of activitie was when we were buzzed by planes, everybody would rush outside, Ernie would jump on the transporter and fire the machine gun, I used to run to the machine gun that was mounted on a tripod at the end of the street and also fire at the plane, everybody else would be outside firing their ak47s, there was not much chance of hitting it or bringing it down but it took only one lucky shot and that would give everyone hope. After the plane had gone out of sight that the transporter was Ernies because he had shot at the enemy leaving the damaged transporter with a sniper rifle, so Geordi the commander in charge of the defense of Osijek had given it to Ernie, I also found out that he worked...

First installment

As I walked towards one of the men whose hair was as short as mine he looked like any British soldier who wore the same uniform as I had in my bergan, "anyone here speak English" I asked, "sure mate, what do you want?" was the reply, I almost had a heart attack, the first person I spoke to was from Liverpool, this was an unexpected coincidence and perhaps now I was getting somewhere.  "where are you from and what do you want" he asked, "Wales and I want to join the Croatian army" I replied he turned around to someone, I didn't catch his name but then he turned back to me,  "the person who is in charge is not here but will be back at about one in the afternoon" he told me, "thanks, I'll come back" and walked off, What was I going to do now I didn't know so I left and headed left not going anywhere special just walking and looking around, behaving as any tourist would there were loads of palm trees so it must be a wa...
