The four seasons

The four seasons, not the group although they were great but the four seasons of the year, Winter, Spring, Summer and Autumn. Let's start off with Winter, well what can I say about Winter, picture postcard weather, cold and bigger fuel bills, that just about sums it up but does it? For children it's great snowball fights, building snowmen, snow angels, Christmas and sledging, they're the only ones that really enjoy Winter. Fo the older generation it's a time to get the snow shovel out if you have to get to work, clearing all the snow off the car and hoping that it will start and if it does then leaving it running so it's warm when you go to work, then clearing a path to the main road so that you can get to work and hoping that the snow ploughs have cleared the road so you don't have to worry about ending up in a ditch. White, no colour from your flowers or trees, just a blank canvas of nothing, then constantly taking your boots off so that you don't have to mop the floor all the time apart from when the pets go out, winter clothes to keep warm and spare clothes for work to change into, windows only open once in a while to let fresh air in and then quickly shutting them to keep the warmth in, higher fuel bills and lots of warm drinks, that's Winter for me but now with global warming it seems to all change in some countries. The children love it and the adults hate it, is that Winter for you.
Next comes Spring, at long last warmer weather with not white but a bit of colour in the garden as the plants and flowers come out of their Winter hibernation, time to think about changing the clothes that you wear and putting the snow shovel away until next year hoping that Winter has really gone but you can never be sure, the children are a bit disappointed because there's no more snow to play in but they have Easter, another thing that parents don't look forward to, Winter was fuel bills now you need money for Easter, that's life but as March arrives the daffodils, snowdrops and tulips start showing their heads getting ready for the sun if it does come out in between the rain showers. You start thinking about your Summer holiday and where if you have enough money you will go. Of course cleaning the car of all the salt that was on the road during Winter which doesn't do the underneath of the car any good, probably having to buy new windscreen wipers because of all of the hard work they did during Winter, putting the clocks forward to Summer time and then you eventually start to think about sunny and warm days which hopefully will come sooner than later, that's Spring for me.
Yes, it's finally arrived Summer, sun and starting to get warmer, no more big fuel bills to pay, windows open and fresh air circulating the home and of course you feel happier. The only bad thing about Summer is that you have to mow the grass and stop the weeds from taking over all the colorful flowers but it's worth it just to be able to go out and sit without having anything to worry about like snow or rain. Next comes cleaning the pool if you're lucky enough to have one or assembling the plastic one, cleaning it and then filling it with water so the children have something to do when they come home from school and finish their homework, bikinis, shorts and swimming trunks come out of cold storage after waiting a year to be used again. Summer holidays if you get to go anywhere, children under your feet as their on holiday as well, but it's a great season but of course it only comes once a year which is a shame but that's our weather for you.
Now it's time for Autumn, all the enjoyment of Summer has passed although you make the most of the nice days before Winter comes around again. The trees start loosing their leaves, the flowers start to go into hibernation, constantly collecting the leaves, putting the lawn mower away after giving it a good clean, getting the car ready for the season to come, getting Winter clothes ready for what might come, getting the car ready and of course trying to put aside money for Christmas and the New Year. The wind starts blowing, the windows aren't open as much and you start to begin heating the home without thinking about fuel bills which of course will increase but it's swings and roundabouts where the weather is concerned so you try not to worry to much. The swimming pool dissmanteld and put back in its box, clothes ready, boots ready, snow shovel ready, now let the Winter come we're ready for you. Well that's my summing up of the four seasons, I suppose it's basically the same for you depending on which country you live in, I hope you enjoyed todays topic, if so share and I'll write again tomorrow because I enjoy it.

Ninth installment

The remains of the unit that were in this position left and we followed them, we went around the outskirts of the village and back into the center. The rest of PIV or what was left of it were already there, we found out that Colin just after he had reached the main hq in the center of the village. We had to go back to the end of the street to see what was happening but as soon as we arrived we came under heavy fire as the enemy had pinpointed this house as our new front line, there was no way that we could reach Eric without getting everyone who attempted a rescue killed and because of the amount of enemy fire we had to fall back, on the way Alan started going berserk saying that he had to go back to fight, he was shooting everywhere so George calmed him down and asked him to take care of the elderly and that seemed to work. By now the village command had decided it was time to leave but first we had to wait for the mortar unit to reach safety. We could not get anywhere near under cons...

Third installment

Day in, day out, it was the same routine, sleep, guard, fire off a few rounds in the general direction of the enemy, there was not much else to do, the main thing was to stay alive by keeping inside every time mortars or artillery came flying in to the village. The only time that there was a lot of activitie was when we were buzzed by planes, everybody would rush outside, Ernie would jump on the transporter and fire the machine gun, I used to run to the machine gun that was mounted on a tripod at the end of the street and also fire at the plane, everybody else would be outside firing their ak47s, there was not much chance of hitting it or bringing it down but it took only one lucky shot and that would give everyone hope. After the plane had gone out of sight that the transporter was Ernies because he had shot at the enemy leaving the damaged transporter with a sniper rifle, so Geordi the commander in charge of the defense of Osijek had given it to Ernie, I also found out that he worked...

Second installment

The word money has a way of working it's way into every aspect of life and my little crusade was not exempt, how much did I need to get to Croatia, how much did I need to survive on the way, it all had to be taken into account and most where and how I was going to get the money from that I needed. By inquiring at travel agents I found out that I could fly but only as far as Austria, Italy or Hungary but the price was much too expensive for me. Taking the train to any of these countries was also far too expensive, the cheapest way was by bus but the only problem was that it took so long to reach your destination. The bus that I wanted to take went from London and it's destination was Athens in Greece, it normally went through Yugoslavia but because of the war it was not going through Budapest then down into Belgrade before going onto Greece. This was the cheapest way to go and after further inquiries I found out the times and price of the bus, now all I had to do was get the mon...
